Inshell Conversions / Calculations

The calculations to convert inshell to a shelled (kernel) equivalent are handy to have a better understanding to the product that is being transacted. The calculations below are only examples and do not represent any specific trade.

A. General Calculation to convert inshell to a shelled (kernel) equivalent:

    Inshell Price
    -------------------
    Crackout Percentage

This formula will yield the shelled (kernel) equivalent price for the trade.

B. Calculation for portions of a trade:

    Full load Quantity

    Assumption: Crackout = 70%

    45,000 lbs. (inshell pounds) X .70 (crackout) = 31,500 lbs. (kernel pounds)

    Partial load

Inshell Quantity X Crackout = kernel equivalent

    22,500 lbs. X .70 = 15,750 lbs.

    Partial Load with Different Crackouts

    45,000 lbs. (inshell pounds) X .70 (crackout) = 31,500 lbs. (kernel pounds)

    22,500 lbs. X .68 = 15,300 lbs.

    22,500 lbs. X .72 = 16,200 lbs.

    Total 31,500 lbs.

Then apply the formula in section A to arrive at the price per kernel pound.

Sales to buyers are based on dollars per inshell pound. Payouts are based on the kernel pounds that are contributed to the load.
